New Jersey Maker's Day: New Milford

Saturday, March 19th, 2016

2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

New Milford Public Library, NMPL, is excited to be a participating site for the Second Annual New Jersey Makers Day on March 19, 2016 from 2pm to 4pm! Community members of all ages are invited to join us for an exciting day filled with activities focusing on maker culture. Maker culture simply means being creative and making things.

NJ Makers Day is designed to be a statewide event that introduces, celebrates, and promotes the maker culture. The day at NMPL will include hands-on activities: Adult Coloring, Beading, Crocheting, Origami, and Connects, plus a special guest appearance by a Finch Robot. The Finch is the result of a four year study at Carnegie Mellon's CREATE Lab and is designed to support an engaging introduction to the art of computer programming.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring this type of programming to the New Milford Public Library,” said Director Terrie McColl. “We are committed to finding ways to help people to learn new skills and to work collaboratively on exciting hands-on projects.”

The maker movement in the United States isn’t just a hobby. In 2015, the inaugural NJ Makers Day drew over 13,000 individual attendees to 130 participating sites across all 21 counties in the state. Participating locations included public and academic libraries, schools, museums, schools, commercial makerspaces, and AC Moore stores.
