Retreat to Victory Staff Ride
October 24, 2015
Join members of the Bergen County Historical Society as historians Kevin Wright and Todd Braisted trace the path of the 1776 British Invasion of Bergen County and the historic retreat of Washington’s Army from Fort Lee, successfully enabled by the crossing at New Bridge Landing! Faced with entrapment between two rivers and the British, follow in the footsteps of George Washington, Nathanael Greene, and Thomas Paine as they raced westward, one step ahead of Lord Cornwallis and 5,000 of King’s George’s troops.
Ride in comfortable style aboard a 28 seat chauffeured motor coach as we travel to the British landing spot along the Hudson, view the area along the Palisades where the British troops were spotted by an intrepid lookout, tour Fort Lee Historic Park, visit Monument Park (the site of the actual fort,) and the Liberty Pole, the crucial road junction that was nearly the scene of a climactic battle in American History! Top it all off with a delicious lunch at In Napoli, one of Fort Lee’s finest restaurants!
